I could not believe it when I started to do some research and found out what was actually IN the pet food I was buying for my dog. I had no idea that I was actually slowly killing the poor animal with all of the unhealthy chemicals that were loaded in that kibble.

Did you realize that research has shown that the potential life span of a dog is 27 years, but the average life span of a dog in the United States is only 11.5 years?

This is a serious problem that no one seems to want to deal with. But an unhealthy dog will not only life a shorter life, but will end up costing you a lot more money in trips to the vet. These chemicals that are in the dog food aisle are made to fill up your dog but not to make them healthier animals. Think about it. All of the labels and ingredients on the back of the kibble bag are made to sell to humans, not to dogs. But if dogs were to actually choose the food to eat, they would stay far away from most of the commercial pet foods on the market right now.

=====> Check out the 245 Homemade Pet Food Recipes Here <=====

So why not try homemade pet food recipes instead?

Making homemade pet food is not as hard as it seems. You can make big batches at a time and actually SAVE more money than buying those 20 lb bags of kibble at the store. I am spending HALF the money on my homemade pet food than the store bought stuff I used to buy.

Homemade pet food improved my dog’s health too!

I have been using homemade dog food for my dog Bruno for over a year now and the difference in his energy level and health is amazing. Within just a few days of the switch I noticed a difference, and I think he did too=). No more trips to the vet, and that alone is saving me lots of money.

Where can you get these recipes?
I was fortunate enough to come across over 245 healthy homemade dog food recipes and my dog loves it. These recipes are a compilation of the research of a guy named John Miller who has worked on them for years. He has been offered a lot of money to sell these recipes to big companies but he has refused and makes them available to the general public instead.

Each country throughout the world is famous for something that they are good at. For instance, when it comes to cuisines, Italy is known for their pasta and their delicious Italian ice treats. If you have always wanted to try some of these treats, try making them yourself. Here are a few easy recipes.

Fundamental

Things you need to prepare:

A cup of orange, lemon or pineapple juice with 1 and 1/4 cups of sugar already added, a maraschingo cherry for garnishing and 2 cupes of water.

Follow these steps:

Mix sugar and water first and then use a saucepan to boil them. Make sure that you continually stir the mixture until you don’t see any crystals of sugar anymore. Once sugar is completely dissolved, let it cool. Get the juice that you have prepared and then add it in the mixture gradually. After that, transfer it in a container then pop it in the freezer. Wait for about 4 hours. Make sure that you check it regularly and try stirring it until you see that it is completely frozen. Once it is frozen, you are now ready to serve the treat.

Making Fruit Juice

Things needed:

2 cups of any type of sugar, 2 cups of your favorite juice and 4 cups of distilled water or tap water.

Procedures:

Mix 4 cups of water and sugar in a saucepan. Put on top of the flame and let it heat up. Continually stir the mixture until the sugar crystals are completely dissolved. Then let it boil for about 5 minutes. Set aside and let it cool. Once it has cooled down, you can then add your juice and then put in the freezer. Then stir it occasionally until frozen.

Fruit Punch

Needed:

1 bottle of fruit punch (best if chilled), 3-5 Italian Ice (of any flavor you love), 1 bottle of sprite or 7-up soft drink

Steps:

Mix the fruit punch and the sprite or 7up in a container. Then let the Italian Ice float on top and serve.

Lemon

What you will need:

1 pint of clean water, 3 large of ripe lemons, about 1/2 teaspoon of lemon peel grated, and about 3/4 pound of granulated sugar

Procedures:

Mix water, sugar and lemon peel in a saucepan and boil them together. Simmer uncovered for about ten minutes. Then, remove from heat and let it cool. Squeeze the lemons and remove the seeds if there are any. Add the lemon juice to the cooled syrup. Add sugar if there is any need to. To neutralize the level of acidity in the food, water can be added. Put in freezer while stirring it occasionally to make it fluffy.

Moreover, you can also use bread with less preservatives or opt for a fiber-rich bread to supplement your diet.

Decreasing the quantity of oil in salads makes good health sense. One approach to do so is to include intriguing and delicious herbs and spices to different types of vinegar. You can find numerous very pretty and reasonably priced bottles available for homemade vinegars to keep or to give away as gifts.

For each recipe, add a little less than a quart of cider or distilled white vinegar to a 1-quart container. Put in a little of the herbs and spices or fruits, like say, raspberries or blueberries, after which cork or cap the container closed. Let the contents of the bottle or container of your choice, sit for a week before utilizing. You can use spiced, herbed, fruited, and flavored vinegars together with or without oil and on many different food items. You do not have to limit it to just salads.

Here is a list of 11 distinctive flavored vinegars that are delicious, fun and easy to make.

1. Basil vinegar: Add 2 tablespoons chopped dried basil, a pinch of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic, 1 bay leaf, 2 sprigs of oregano, and several leaves or sprigs of basil.

2. Blueberry tarragon vinegar: Add 1/4 cup frozen blueberries, pureed and sweetened with 1 tablespoon sugar, if necessary; 1/4 teaspoon pickled peppercorns; a pinch of celery seed; at least 10 fresh blueberries; and a sprig of fresh tarragon.

3. Caper vinegar: Add 2 teaspoons finely chopped onion, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons drained capers, 2 tablespoons caper juice, and 1/4 teaspoon celery seed. You can use capers with long stems or add some long, uncut chives.

4. Celery vinegar; Add 2 tablespoons chopped celery, 1 teaspoon celery seed, 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard, 1/4 teaspoon sugar, a little stalk of celery using the leaves, and 1 bay leaf.

5. French vinegar: Add 1 clove minced garlic, 1/2 cup finely chopped tomatoes, 1 teaspoon sugar, 2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley, a sprig of rosemary, and a sprig of thyme.

6. Garlic vinegar: Add 3 cloves garlic, minced: 2 cloves garlic, sliced wafer thin lengthwise; 5 smallish, whole garlic cloves, peeled; and 5 to 10 whole cloves.

7. Hot pepper vinegar: Add 2 teaspoons chopped jalapeno pepper and also all the seeds from the pepper. Add 2 or more small hot red, green, or jalapeno peppers depending upon your taste: several long, thin hot red peppers and various slices of sun-dried tomato.

8. Italian vinegar: Add 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 teaspoon dried or 2 teaspoons chopped fresh sweet basil, 1 teaspoon dried oregano or 1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh oregano, 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard, 1/2 teaspoon sugar, salt, if preferred and 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice. If you would like leaves in the container, leave out the dried or chopped oregano or basil and use a modest amoun ot leafy sprig of either one of these.

9. Onion vinegar: Add 1/4 cup finely chopped onion, 2 teaspoons chopped chives, 1 chopped scallion, whole scallions, and several long chives.

10. Raspberry vinegar: Add 1/2 cup mashed, frozen, sweetened, raspberries; 1/4 teaspoon pickled peppercorns; a pinch of celery seeds; and 10 to 15 whole fresh raspberries to stay in the bottom part of the container.

11. Tarragon vinegar: Add 2 tablespoons dried tarragon, 1 clove minced garlic, a smidge of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice and a large sprig of fresh tarragon.

Be cautious about using dried black pepper or red pepper flakes to vinegar, unless you really want a hot, hot, hot pepper vinegar. Pepper is likely to become stronger with time and could overpower the vinegar.

It’s hard for me to believe, but April 1, 2009 marks the 100th anniversary of my grandmother Elizabeth Rose von Hohen’s birth! When you think about 100 years going by, especially this past 100 years, it’s mind blowing to think of the changes she witnessed. As a little girl Elizabeth would take the reins of the cart and ride down a long narrow lane to the country road which lead to the farm where she would pick up milk for her family. She took pride in the responsibility given to her at such a young age. Ten decades later this little country girl now has a new website to honor her and to offer her Grandmother’s Cookbook ~ comfort foods made with love. I am so proud to have had such a wonderful grandmother and even more proud to have the opportunity to share her stories and recipes with the world!

I am excited to share with you two healthy recipes which have been in our family well over 100 years. They are Hungarian Peasant Meal and Oatmeal Cookies, both brought here from the old country by my great-grandmother, Anna. The Hungarian Peasant Meal is a dish I was unaware of until we started putting our cookbook together. My mother told me it was a staple for their family back in the 1930s and 1940s because it was inexpensive. She said she has vivid memories of my grandfather putting a big lump of butter on the boiled red potatoes. He’d then break off a piece of potato and take a scoop of the cottage cheese mixture and pop it into his mouth! Delicious! This is so yummy ~ you just have to try it! It is quick and extremely easy to make. In fact, this is the perfect recipe for a beginner to try.

Hungarian Peasant Meal

One thing we had lots of times for dinner was this meal. My mother told us in the old country they called potatoes “feld hendles,” field chickens, as they took the place of meat.

Boil 6 to 12 medium red new potatoes in their jackets in salted water for about ½ hour or until soft. They are done when a fork easily goes into the potato. Mix 1 pound of cottage cheese with a sprinkle of salt, pepper and paprika. Add a heaping tablespoon of sour cream and ½ cup chopped scallions. Toss cottage cheese mixture together and sprinkle with paprika.

Serve potatoes in their jackets. We just peeled them on our plates, sprinkled with salt and pepper and a lump of butter. Serve with two or three heaping tablespoons of the cottage cheese mixture. Delicious!

Oatmeal Cookies

1 Cup White Sugar

1 Cup Brown Sugar

2 Eggs

3 Cups Oatmeal

1 Cup Butter

1 Cup Flour

1 Teaspoon Baking Soda

½ Cup Chopped Walnuts or Pecans

½ Cup Raisins

½ Cup Coconut

Cream together sugar, butter and eggs until light and fluffy. Add flour, oatmeal and baking soda. Add nuts, raisins and coconut. Mix well. Drop from a teaspoon on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees.

This recipes makes a big batch of cookies. They are so delicious you’ll find yourself eating a handful at a time!

Kids love helping out in the kitchen. It can also be a big source of pride for them to tell you that they made the meal, almost all by themselves. It’s also wonderful being able to combine fun, hands-on play time with meal preparation time. My boys love helping me make gnocchi almost as much as they love eating them!

Pasta Play Dough (Gnocchi)

3 medium baking potatoes
1 small sweet potato
1 ½ cups of flour
1 beaten egg yolk
1 ½ tsp of salt
Butter
Parmesan cheese

Heat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the potatoes until tender. Let cool. Scrape out the pulp onto a dry, clean area. Add flour, egg and salt and mix with your hands until the dough comes together. Knead lightly. Separate the dough into 5 balls and then roll the balls into ropes about 28″ long. Cut each rope into ¾” to 1″ pieces. You can gently roll the pieces with a fork to give it grooves. Cook the dough in lightly salted, boiling water. When they rise to the top they’re done. Toss with butter and parmesan cheese and enjoy!

The kids can knead the dough and roll it out into long ropes. The ropes cut easily so you can give the kids safer type plastic knifes or a rolling type pizza cutter.

You can also top with your favorite sauce or try this easy, fast and delicious flavored butter sauce:

5 TBS of butter
5 TBS of olive oil
1 tsp of dried basil (or 4 TBS of chopped fresh basil)
1 TBS of diced garlic

On LOW heat, gently simmer all of the ingredients together to bring out the flavor of the garlic and basil. Add gnocchi when they’re done cooking and toss gently and then top with parmesan cheese.

Here is an easy dessert the kids can make, as well. It does require using an electric mixer, so it might require adult supervision but it’s an easy and forgiving recipe so a bit of extra peanut butter or sugar won’t hurt it. Very kid friendly!

Peanut Butter Pie

4 oz of soft cream cheese
½ cup peanut butter (we like creamy)
1 cup of powdered sugar
8-9 oz of thawed, non-dairy type whipped topping
1 chocolate cookie pie crust

Mix the cream cheese and peanut butter with a mixer. Add the sugar and milk and mix some more. Then stir in the non-dairy topping and pour into the crust. Freeze it for at least 3 hours and then enjoy! Warning: This is so good that you might find yourself hiding it from the kids!

You would be surprised to know that the blue lobster is actually not a lobster. In reality, it is a crayfish. Though crayfish and lobsters are closely related, they are not same. Therefore, you would never find blue lobsters in a seafood restaurant. The blue lobsters are extremely rare. In fact, they are so rare that people choose to keep them in their home as a pet. They are mainly spotted down under in New Zealand and Australia. Some are available in the coasts of Florida as well.

The scientific name of this creature is Procambarus alleni. They can grow up to eight inches in length. They are called blue lobsters because of their shell color. The fact that they possess two pincher claws makes them look similar to the lobsters. However, any person who is passionate about keeping an aquarium in the home must include the blue lobster or the crayfish. They would be an amazing sight! The crayfish along with the clownfish and goldfish, would make your collection complete. The crayfish would always provide that extra edge in your armory, that your friends cannot match easily. Learn as much as possible about them from the internet or from the books, so that you can take proper care to ensure their survival.

They crayfish might not fall under the category of lobsters but they are good to eat. They can be fried or grilled; either way they taste fabulous. But if you have made your mind not to eat them and instead keep them as your pet, the first thing you need to do is to buy a spacious aquarium for your crayfish. The aquarium should be large enough to accommodate twenty gallons of water. Create the ambience of its natural habitat by including pebbles, sand, and artificially made tunnels. It will make the crayfish feel at home. Also add extra hiding spots wherever possible to make the crayfish as comfortable as possible. Besides, adding some rocks and plants are always nice, as they would provide an attractive look to your aquarium.

The temperature of the water for the blue lobster should be kept around sixty to eighty degrees of Fahrenheit ideally. You should monitor the temperature closely at all times, and ensure that it does not go cross the eighty degree mark at any cost. Anything above eighty can put the crayfish under tremendous pressure. It might well become sick and turn a pale brown color. Consider small slices of vegetables, flakes, and algae as food for your crayfish. The blue lobsters are scavengers, hence, will eat almost anything you throw down the water. However, you would do well not to consider the crayfish as your seafood ; they are rare and needs to be preserved.

The crayfish no doubt would be an excellent collection to your aquarium. It should be kept as your pet for their stunning blue hue. However, it would be wise to keep them separately from other fishes, as they sometimes become very aggressive, and attack all of a sudden.

Catfish Stew is one of the ultimate comfort foods. It is a perfect winter dish; hearty, comforting and easy to make at home. Cooks and seafood lovers from everywhere identify the Chesapeake Bay with the famous blue crab. However, the residents of the Bay region know differently. This area is teeming with all kinds of other bounty from the sea.

Having grown up in Annapolis, Maryland, right on the Severn River that flows into the Chesapeake, I know the pleasures of catching catfish, perch, rockfish, and spots. Family backyard crab feasts featured not only steamed crabs, but oysters and other fried fin fish.

Catfish used to be primarily the purview of southern cooks; however, today, many more people have discovered the delicate flavor of this ugly-looking specimen with whiskers reminiscent of those of a cat. It adapts easily to all kinds of cooking techniques such as baking, grilling or frying. Further, its versatility cannot be matched in recipes. Imagine catfish as an appetizer or in tacos, catfish with Asian flavors or in a salad. Yummy!

The succulent stew below brings out the best in catfish. It takes on the flavors of the dried herbs and spices with ease. The white beans complement the tenderness and firmness of the fish and make it a real American comfort food. Another benefit is that it is ready in just minutes!

Chesapeake Bay Inspired Catfish Stew

Ingredients:

* 2 Tbs. canola or olive oil

* 1 large chopped onion

* 1 chopped bell pepper, green, yellow or red

* 1/2 lbs. farm-raised catfish nuggets, cut into chunks

* 1/2 tsp. cumin

* 1 tsp. curry powder

* 1 tsp. Italian seasoning

* 1/2 tsp. thyme

* 1/2 tsp. basil

* 1/2 tsp. celery seed

* 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes

* 1/2 to 1 tsp. garlic salt

* 1/4 tsp. cracked black pepper

* 1 can cannellini beans, drained

* 4 c. water

Directions:

Pour oil in bottom of a Dutch oven. Sauté bell pepper and onions over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Add catfish and cook about 1 minute allowing flavors to blend. Add water, beans and remaining ingredients. Cover and simmer slowly for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Serve over hot steamed rice. Serves about 4

In order for you to truly succeed in your choice for a healthier lifestyle, you must always remember that choosing a healthy lifestyle means modifying everything about you down to the way you eat and what you eat, in order to reap the results of healthy living.

In this article, you will read about the important things to keep in your diet- the essential ingredients that will make up your health recipies.

Among the things you must always include in your healthy diet is the awareness of the nutritional value and caloric count of every food that you include in your meal plans. The amount of calories and nutrition that you need in a day must be proportional to your lifestyle- this means you would need to pattern out what you need to include in your meals according to your activities, habits, age, gender, etc. The food you eat must also be patterned on whether or not you live a very active or hectic lifestyle which means you will need a diet consisting of a high amount of calories in order to supply with the energy that you will need, or if you live a stay-at-home, or laidback lifestyle which means you will need less calories in your diet.

Just like athletes have a special diet high on protein, carbohydrates and calcium, so do each individual need one according to his or her particular needs, age, body composition, metabolic cycle, physical activities, and lifestyle.

Among other things, like eating at least 3 planned and scheduled meals regularly, choosing whole-wheat grain foods instead of the regular ones, and using vegetable oils like olive or sunflower or safflower oil instead of regular ones, there are also other essentials that you must not forget to add to your healthy diet.

Do not forget to pack your diet with citrusy fruits. Fruits such as oranges, lemons, calamansi, grapefruit, berries, kiwi, and vegetables such as broccoli and red bell peppers are rich in Vitamin C, which is a potent antioxidant. It helps boost your immune system and flush out toxins from the body. It is also very good for the skin. Vitamin C plays a huge role in forming collagen, which promotes firmness and elasticity. Vitamin C rich foods do not need to be limited to your snacks, it is highly recommended for you to include them in all your meals. There are lots of recipes that you can check out which contains different formulations of meals that include these Vitamin C rich foods in then.

Silica, which is found in organic foods is also a very useful nutrient that helps improve and maintain skin elasticity, texture and complexion. A lot of brands for skin care actually use this as part of the ingredients that they use for their products. Silica is found richest in the usually most ignored of parts in plants and vegetables- the skin. So make sure that in order to fully take in the nutrients that an organic food can offer, wash it well so you will be able to eat the skin as well which also contains a lot of nutrients that your body can still utilize. Some of these are those of celery and asparagus plants.

And among the most important things to never forget is hydration- always remember to drink at least 8 glasses of water of with 6 glasses of tea. Green tea is the healthiest choice for tea and they are best taken in unsweetened and unflavored. When drinking milk, use the low-fat and unsweetened version; the same goes for yogurt; and if you need to use sweeteners, brown sugar is the healthier choice compared to white sugar.
